WE citizens of the country called AMERICA are being surrounded by a chain of events that most of us are handily ignoring. As we’ve listened to the change,(and Sabre), rattlings issued by the world’s “VILLAGE IDIOTS” we’ve grown DEAF to the neighbors’ setting up gated communities to the SOUTH of us, all the way to TIERRA del FUEGO.

While anyone with the electronic portal to knowledge can Google a gaggle of proper information most folks of this nation are spending their time ogling the latest nude photos of someone’s teenage starlet daughter, instead of learning about the next ruse of some “POLITICIAN”. Let’s see, we here in America are but THREE PERCENT of the WORLD POPULATION , yet and still, we devour TWENTY-FIVE PERCENT of the world’s things. The most troubling of these are the fact that Americans also lead the world in OBESITY and DRUG ABUSE.

Since the Pamunkey tribe’s territorial reservations with the English monarchy, before ‘Pakahantes’, (” beloved daughter”.), known to us as Pocahontas rejoined her “family”, the European peoples that have appropriated this land have increasingly led the global charges in subjugating others for their greeds and false “superiorities”, here, and through letters, e-mail, phone calls and “business vacations” known as ‘JUNKETS’, back to the HOME/ “FATHER”-lands.

The beginnings of what was “wanted” by those who set up the rules and regulations of our sovereignty actually looked forward to the day when those things, that at that time period couldn’t be resolved, to establish the basis of what the “BUSINESS PLAN” of these UNITED States of America were to be and then rectify them. Simple men whose names are present, but NOT their personalities, gave us the HOPE that what they’d left across the pond would be protected against. Now the “common” man, or woman, has been relegated from delivering the message of the people who are the HEART, SOUL, AND BACKBONE of this nation, as well as the rest of the world’s populations. As of this coming Presidential “election” we are seeing the candidates raise fundings that are close to what, almost, every combined salary of the corporate American C.E.O. will make this year, achieving the feat on a MONTHLY basis. How are WE to have the VOICES of OUR SANITIES become the RULE …”OF the PEOPLE, BY the PEOPLE, FOR THE PEOPLE”… as it was initially intended? How do WE intend to reinstate those rights and freedoms that have been drugged by a fascist, fear mongering toy ‘Bulldog’ and his ‘reichist’ Judas goats? How do we stop the proliferations of policy that in order to change the political rulings of other nations that we declare falsities to justify killing first, instead of diplomacy and understanding’s compromise?

We’ve allowed too many decisions to be made for us that ARE removing that thing we used to KNOW as freedom and DEMOCRACY. And what has begun here is NOW being thrust upon the rest of this pebble we called home. Just how long do we “think” it will take before THE FINAL ‘HORN’ SOUNDS end of game?

One “last gasp” of ‘thought’. When Barack Obama said that there were 56 or 58 states in “the union”, if you count the federal “terrorist” detention camps around the world, that have been authenticated, you will find that the man is most likely correct in his statement given. It’s not conspiracy, just “fiction” until it gets on the mind’s “marketplace”.

For those that think that I don’t love my country guess again. Anything that one uses long enough tends to wear, if one TRULY CARES for what that thing does for them one will ALWAYS seek and implement the proper maintenance and TIMELY upgrades to make its existence LAST.

GLITTER & DOOM @ 8 P.M. June 28, 2008. A NIGHT OF TOM WAITS

In having a ‘career’ in the “technical” aspects of “THE ARTS” sometimes I’ve been fortunate enough to make a “nice” paycheck AND work for an ARTIST who has such an influence of uniquenesses that I just overlook the trying days. After twenty some odd years I have now gotten to experience Mister TOM WAITS. The only person I’ve ever heard excuse obsessive behaviors by blaming his ever present PIANO…” The Piano has been drinkin’, the Piano has been drinkin’, but not ME!”… via his bourbon basso sifted through granite and pumice.

TOM WAITS, The bohemian bard of back alley balladry. The LAST BEATNIK of our times, a skewed Shakespeare slathering our ears and minds with the simple katanas of pure insight. YES, I DO like his STYLE! The “call” was to begin at eight a.m. when we began to unload the three tractor-trailers of GLITTER & DOOM at the OHIO THEATRE, (39 E. State St. /Columbus,Ohio), a perfect showcase for this night with its angels & Pan gold-leafed all over, waiting to hear the truths to be heard. Besides the requisit lights and sound the stage set up gave the affectianado the intimacy this night deserved. As for the simple, sharp lighting the upstage lightboxes needed a bit of “tweaking”, they were boxes that had opaque acrylic facings that were covered with black velvet-like material. The light escaped through random cutouts that some of the repair crew were comparing to Rorschachs. The MOST unique piece of the WAITS presentation was the raised circular stage that Tom had. A ‘kick-drum’ that was actuated via a pulley system that TOM really kicks like a skinny Lou Groza. Behind everyone is a tower of old assorted speaker horns that give us old folks the nostalgia of those raggedy systems in the types of clubs that supported the neighborhood’s cooler musicians.

The musical “footers” that provided Tom’s base of the night were: Vince Henry-Woodwinds& Harmonica, Casey Waits-’DRUMS’(world-wide), Omar Torrez-Guitar/Banjo, Patrick Warren-Keyboards and Seth Ford- Young on Bass. Tom played the Guitar and Bullhorn. The HOUSE that WAITS built was Frank Lloyd Wright meets Jack Kerouac [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rF3YQ5WajJk&feature=related]. Here’s the evenings song list:

Isn’t THIS a RICH example of how astute our “elected’s” staffers are? And I’m not REPUBLICAN. I don’t have a single “WATT-EDGE” OF “PACHYDERM POLLUTION” in OR on* me… BUT it IS getting harder to tell the difference, they both have LARGE EARS but can’t seem to GROK the SOUNDWAVE’S MESSEGE. If a story, by my first touching of the genre: ‘Science Fiction’, was written like the above I’m sure that ANDRE’ NORTON might be proud that she’d left so much an impression on a Third-grader. The ‘HEARALDIC’ theme has made such a terrific mark on today’s histories, both ‘fiction’ and “fact”. We are led through these ‘lives’ we experience with the scenarios chosen by ‘others’, (pick ANY story type.), and their remarkably smarmy goals. The sad part of finishing any ‘pamphlet’ to tome is that there is so much MORE to the thought and all of ITS inevitability’s. One of the better futuristic literary groupings of this type of socio-political presentation is Frank Herbert’s DUNE set of books, which have been added to by his son. Intrigue, politics, ancestral predestination all mark a, gratefully given, omniscient look into a world that has too many similarities to this present day around us.

Then we’ve the many types of, numbers of and ways of, the story of KING ARTHUR. We’ve even had ‘CAMELOT’ transplanted to America for THREE, TOO SHORT, years. The part that has given me the most mental grief is how the “KINGDOM” lost its SELF, along with its KING, in the search ” FOR THE HOLY GRAIL”. The “GRAIL”, by definition: a grail is a simple vessel or cup. In the context of ARTHURIAN ‘CHRISTO’ thoughts the prevailing views are that of recovery of THE CUP that the “NAZERENE” shared liquid sacraments on top of an unknown abode with friends and followers. OR the BLOODLINE carried by the “VESSEL” to FRANCE. The KNIGHTS traveled to an area of the world that we, here, have just begun to become familiar with and DO NEED to UNDERSTAND.

KNIGHTS, men, and a woman or so, PEOPLE encased in protective metal. A person who’s identities aren’t visible. WE have NO way of knowing anything more than their abilities of a “one on one nature”. Many of the ‘FOURTH ESTATE’ have asked who of the TWO, (seeking the PRESIDENTIAL “CROWN”.), will step to fore as the “WHITE KNIGHT” of this nation’s needs. Pulling Out (of) The RACE CARd

There have been times since childhood that the ugly head of hate and stupidity has raised its obtuse, little pate and attempted to draw me into one of its preplanned trapdoors. Although I sometimes had a fighting chance, I choose the proper words for these “articles”, it wasn’t so when I was a ‘TAD’.

I began this article some while ago as a jest, then the MAURICIA GRANT article in ‘USA TODAY’ stuck its finger in my eye. ( If Barack Obama becomes President I DO HOPE that NASCAR officials don’t attempt an invitation in their near future !). In this time of INTERNATIONAL MOTOR SPORTS RACING seeing a young HUED MAN leading its points standings, and doing so with only 24 starts, of which produced 6 wins, 16 podiums and 8 Pole positions, it WOULD SEEM that, again, America, in ALL its greatness’s, has some HOUSE CLEANING TO DO.( Beyond the FACT that great engineering and equipment, more times than not, will always yield SUPERIOR RESULTS.). NOT as much as it “USED TO”, but the world has a sharper interest in its “DO AS I SAY, NOT AS I DO” policy of facing the different ways that other people experience that “VISAGE”… I’d have begun with showing a couple graphics/ cartoons that had two ‘opposites’ exchanging “social” unpleasantness’s then one extracts a standard horse racing form in reply, his “RACE”(ING) card … But this day wouldn’t allow THAT to happen. There’s not too much to say as yet because the circle (of) jurists have JUST begun to watch the opposing parties’ “on track” warm-up laps. There has been debate over the driving abilities of anyone that is not used to “PILOTING” a vehicle in the “TRUE ACADIAN MANNER”, (either like you “STOLE IT”, or like you’re ” RUNNIN’ RUM” or “MOONSHINE”.).

Now one of the great “RIDGE RUNNIN’ RASCALS of NASCAR history is one JUNIOR JOHNSON, a ‘LEGEND’ of the early hard charging, “SWAPPIN’ PAINT” type of the racing cadence of ” YOUR LEFT, YOUR LEFT, YOUR LEFT, YOUR LEFT”… which couples with the adage that ” TWO WRONGS DON’T MAKE A RIGHT, but THREE LEFTS DO”, (carried by the last left and you have a ‘RACE’!).The history of American automobile racing is long and “colorful”, ‘heroes’ like EDDIE RICKENBACKER have braved “flame and fortune” to obtain their “NEED FOR SPEED”. (A class-mate in high school was just missed by a tire at the “INDY 500″ last century.), Robert Glen Johnson Jr., winner of 50 NASCAR races in the 1950’s and ’60’s. The year 1963 is the point in history, (and this article.), that’s the (pace-car ’slow’) evolvement to finish, (no re-starts!). On December 31, 1963, at Jacksonville, Florida’s SPEEDWAY PARK ‘Junior’ Johnson lost to WENDELL OLIVER SCOTT, ‘NEGRO’ (!!!). Out of 495 credited starts Mr. Scott achieved 147 top ten finishes and ONE WIN, the first man of ‘color’ to do so.

Many have thought Scott THE first ‘US’ to race American “STOCK CARS”, he WASN’T! Rebecca Gladden of INSIDE RACING NEWS states that on July 31, 1955 at the BAY MEADOWS RACEWAY in San Mateo, CA one ELIAS BOWIE, ( no “KIN” to David.), was the earliest African-American to “trade paint” in NASCAR annals, with LEE PETTY, BUCK BAKER, MARVIN PANCH and Grand National CHAMPION of that year TIM FLOCK. 28TH out of 34 drivers. His ONE and ONLY race.

AND then we arrive at NORTH AMERICAN AUTO RACING’S most blatant ‘BLACK’ race ‘car’ driver… WILLY T. RIBBS. Indianapolis 500 participant who went to Europe to compete and win the FORMULA FORD series DUNLOP CHAMPIONSHIP before retuning home after only one year’s competition. “Drove a CADILLAC POWERED Indy entry sponsored by NEWPORT cigarettes” and for the WILLIAM H. COSBY race team. Willy T. has driven almost all the many types of ‘MONIED’ MOTOR events that are held in this country, quite SUCCESSFUL in all.

In the offer to assist NASCAR in reaching those who haven’t developed a YEN for so many left hand turns NBA HALL OF FAME RESIDENT Ervin “MAGIC” Johnson, (no, well maybe, KIN to Junior.), opened the minority door through training and EDUCATION of HUED people to enter the ranks of NASCAR , a sort of easement in the ENVELOPING of all AMERICA for the ”STARS and BARS” folk. ARE they PLAYING OUR DIRGE?

In THE” no child left behind” mandate of the United States Department of ‘EDUCATION’ the leadership of this nation’s ‘educators are failing to have our children remaining educated enough to COMPETE in the world markets . Keeping up is, again, proving to truly be ‘ON A SLIDING SCALE’. Over the last years the struggle of school boards to keep up with the increase in attendance often means that ART and MUSIC is as shelved as a complete, unabridged, copy of James Joyce’s ULYSSES.

Art… is the one thing that EVERY CHILD possesses from the start, some are stronger than others , but ALL appreciate shape and color. Look at a house or automobile. And, if a child hasn’t lost their sense of hearing MUSIC is the TOOL to UNDERSTANDING. It binds them to the rhythms of nature , life in general. And as a child learns the many types of sounds some of these become the calendars of their lives, helping them remember a moment in HISTORY… I sat and watched the Presidential Inauguration of John F. Kennedy with my grandparents. There was a very tall black man who sang for the President, his Wife “Jackie”, son “John John” and daughter Caroline plus the rest of the WORLD. His name was McHenry Boatwright, years later I got to sit in a couple of his classes here in Columbus… These are what the ARTS can, and should do, to and FOR SOCIETY, to bring the wholenesses that we all seek in everything in this moment we label LIFE. The TYPES/ genres of the myriad of time signatures may tell us how to THINK without our knowing it. It definitely leads us in the ways LOVE is expressed, from mothers, from a friend. From anything that makes the HEART pump stronger, to promoting the sleep from a soft Soprano lullaby.

The PEOPLE that have spent their lives weaving the calculated ‘noises’ that have been drawn and stretched to our likings by so many different shapes and materials have chosen to perfect the ways that sound, noise, MUSIC and SONG travel to where we are… Then give us what we’ve asked for AT THAT MOMENT. With all the TIMES and MONIES invested into what started on the days that they were born is it fair to have these MEN and WOMEN CONTINUE to do the blessing that is the background harmonies and melodies of this CONCERT CALLED LIFE? Or will we let them wither. To make them score a dirge for this society?

Tonight may well be the LAST great NOTES written to ride the stirrups in our heads. Mark this date: MAY THIRTY-FIRST, the TWO THOUSAND and EIGHTH YEAR of the ROMAN calendar, started after the demise of another BRIGHT LIGHT.
